My speech - Good Manners are important

‘’Use your manners,’’ says Mum, ‘’Don’t open your mouth while you are eating,
you look like a monster!”
You must always say please and thank you and I have told you this about
100 times…..look at someone while they’re speaking to you!’’

This would sound familiar to many of you. Your parents remind you to use
your manners nearly everyday.  That’s because manners are extremely
important and I’m here to tell you why. Manners are something everyone
appreciates, even strangers respond to your polite behaviour. Manners
encourage others to be nice to you and it sets a good example to others. Also
using manners shows you have respect for others and for yourself, your
parents will be proud of how they have raised you.

People actually like when you show manners because they really like
that you are being responsible and helpful.  They also like that you are not
hurting them and you can get more friends if you do these things. Politeness
is important because everyone loves to hear some good and respectful words.
Politeness has the power to make rude people stop and think about their own
behaviour and hopefully they will become polite and show manners. For
example - in class if there was a new student and you are being friendly to her
she will be friendly back to you. If you are being rude to the new student, he
will be rude back to you and you two might get in a fight and you guys won’t
be friendly or polite to each other anymore.

If you be nice to other people they will be nice to you.  If you ever get hurt,
they will help you and they will do all the kind things that you have done to
them - remember the saying ‘Treat others how you want to be treated.’ You
don’t always know why other people have been mean to you or why they
have said or done certain things. Assumptions made about others can be
false, and most of the time they are. Be aware of the fact that each person
you meet could be struggling in his or her own way and being kind might
remind them that they too should be kind.

Respecting your parents and other adults is extremely important because
you are smaller than your parents, big brother, big sister and other adults.
Using your manners is one of the main ways you can show respect. It is not
good if you are being rude to your parents, big brothers and sisters because
they care for you and love you.  Your parents give you life and do so many
things to help you. For example, they set the table for meals, they do the
dishes, clean the floor, take out the trash, get the mail and the newspaper and
clean up.  Parents are so busy and get so tired from doing things to help their
children, so the least you can do is show your appreciation with a simple
‘thank you’.

So to sum up….Manners are highly important!  Remember to say your please
and thank you words all the time and remember to always help your parents
when they are working.  People like people that use manners, so use yours
today!
